  • Kid-approved: Crunchy coating + dipping sauce = instant favorite

  • Weeknight easy: Simple ingredients and quick cook time

  • Flexible cooking: Works in the oven or air fryer

  • Snack or side: Great with dinner or after-school snacking

Ingredients

Scale

Green Bean Fries

  • 1 cup whole wheat panko or breadcrumbs

  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/4 cup flour

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 23 inch pieces

  • Cooking oil spray

Honey Mustard Dip

  • 1/4 cup mustard (yellow or Dijon)

  • 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

Air Fryer Method

  1. Prep the coating:
Mix panko, salt, and garlic powder in one bowl.
Whisk eggs in a second bowl.
Place flour in a third bowl.

  2. Bread the beans:
Dip green beans into flour → egg → breadcrumb mixture, coating evenly.

  3. Air fry:
Preheat air fryer to 400°F (205°C).
Arrange beans in a single layer (work in batches if needed).
Spray lightly with oil and cook 6–8 minutes, until crisp and golden.

  4. Make the dip:
Stir mustard and honey together in a small bowl.

  5. Serve:
Enjoy warm with honey mustard dipping sauce.

Oven Method

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) and coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
(Place a wire rack over the sheet if available for extra crispiness.)

  2. Prepare breading bowls as described above.

  3. Coat green beans in flour, egg, then breadcrumbs.

  4. Arrange beans in a single layer without touching. Spray lightly with oil.

  5. Bake 15 minutes, until golden and crisp.

  6. Mix honey and mustard for dipping and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Dry the beans first: Moisture prevents crispiness — pat dry with a towel if needed.

  • Don’t overcrowd: Space allows hot air to circulate for crunch.

  • Freezer-friendly:

    • Freeze breaded beans on a tray for 30 minutes.

    • Transfer to a zip-top bag and freeze up to 1 month.

    • Cook straight from frozen; add 2–3 minutes to cook time.

  • Storage: Refrigerate leftovers up to 3 days. Reheat in oven or air fryer at 375°F to re-crisp.
