Crispy, golden, and totally snackable, these Green Bean Fries are baked or air-fried for an easy, family-friendly side dish. Served with a sweet and tangy honey mustard dip, they’re a healthier twist on fries that kids and adults both love.

Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside.

These Crispy Green Bean Fries are baked (or air fried!) for a healthier twist on a kid-favorite snack. Perfect for dunking in honey mustard, ranch, or BBQ sauce, they make a fun after-school bite, appetizer, or veggie side — and they’re freezer-friendly too.

Why It Works

  • Kid-approved crunch: A golden panko coating makes these irresistible.
  • Healthier than fried: No deep fryer needed — oven or air fryer does the trick.
  • Perfect for dipping: That crispy coating was made for sauces.
  • Freezer-friendly: Prep now, bake later for an easy snack win.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2–3 inch pieces
  • ½ cup whole wheat panko (or regular panko)
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, whisked
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Cooking spray

Optional for serving: honey mustard, ranch, BBQ sauce, or sriracha mayo

Instructions

  1. Prep breading station:
    • In one bowl, mix panko, salt, and garlic powder.
    • In a second bowl, whisk eggs.
    • In a third bowl, add flour.
  2. Coat the beans:
Dip each green bean into flour, then egg, then breadcrumb mixture, coating evenly. Repeat with remaining beans.
  3. Arrange & spray:
    • Air Fryer: Place beans in a single layer in the basket. Lightly spritz with oil.
    • Oven: Arrange on a baking sheet (or wire rack set over a baking sheet) without touching. Lightly spray with oil.
  4. Cook:
    • Air Fryer: 400°F for 6–8 minutes, until golden and crisp.
    • Oven: Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes, until crispy and golden.

Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Getting Kids Involved

Ages 3–5:

  • Help dip beans into breadcrumbs.
  • Lightly spray (with supervision).

Ages 6–9:

  • Set up the breading station.
  • Arrange coated beans on the baking sheet.

Ages 10+:

  • Manage air fryer or oven timing (with supervision).
  • Mix dipping sauces.

Letting kids dunk and coat makes them much more excited to eat their veggies.

Pro Tips, Meal Prep & Time Savers

  • Dry the beans first: Moisture prevents crispiness. Pat dry with paper towels.
  • Use a wire rack: Helps hot air circulate for extra crunch.
  • Don’t overcrowd: Space them out so they crisp instead of steam.
  • Add flavor: Mix cayenne or smoked paprika into breadcrumbs for a little kick.
  • Go gluten-free: Use GF flour and breadcrumbs.
  • Freezer tip: After breading, freeze on a baking sheet for 30 minutes. Transfer to a zip-top bag and freeze up to 1 month. Bake or air fry straight from frozen, adding 2–3 extra minutes.

Crispy, dippable, and totally snackable, these Green Bean Fries turn a simple veggie into a family-favorite treat.
