Double Chocolate Cranberry Crunch Granola

Chocolate cravings be gone!  Now you can enjoy a wholesome chocolate treat with this decadent and crunchy granola recipe.

A favorite breakfast (and even snack) of ours is to eat yogurt with granola sprinkled on the top.  This particular recipe takes it over the top with chocolate coated oats nestled with dark chocolate, cranberries, coconut and salty roasted almonds.

Any granola recipe can be tweaked with the add-ins but we think we found a winning combination here!  We have added hemp hearts and chia seeds for a little extra nutrition crunch ala Recipe Rebuild style! Dark chocolate is used for added nutrition and flavor intensity.  Cranberries add a different texture and color and the roasted, salted almonds add that rockin’ sweet and salty flavor combination.  We prefer flaked coconut in our granola, but shredded coconut works well also.

This granola keeps very well stored in an airtight container for a couple weeks and would be perfect to package in holiday bags or tins and given as hostess gifts, neighbor gifts or teacher gifts.


Why Healthy

  • Oats contain a good amount of protein, are high in fiber, and rich in thiamine, folate, B5, iron, magnesium, zinc, copper, and manganese.
  • Almonds are also a good source of heart-healthy, or monounsaturated, fats. They are rich in magnesium, high in vitamin E and loaded with B vitamins.
  • Hemp hearts have a high blend of omega-3 and omega-6 fats, a high fiber content, and a quality amino acid profile.
  • Extra virgin coconut oil contains healthy medium chain fatty acids with immune boosting and cholesterol lowering properties.
  • Dark chocolate is a potent antioxidant and antioxidants gobble up free radicals, destructive molecules that are implicated in heart disease and other ailments.



Double Chocolate Cranberry Crunch Granola

3 Cups Old-Fashioned Oats (Not Quick)
1/4 Cup Coconut oil, Melted
1/2 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
1/3 Cup Honey
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
2 Tablespoons Hemp Hearts (Optional)
1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds (Optional)
1/2 Cup Dark Chocolate Chips or Chunks
1/2 Cup Dried Cranberries
1/2 Cup Shredded Coconut
1/4 Cup Salted Roasted Almonds, Coarsely Chopped

Heat the oven to 350 degrees F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place the oats in a large bowl.
In a small bowl, combine the coconut oil, cocoa powder, honey and salt mixing well until combined.
Pour the liquid mixture over the oats and toss to moisten and coat the oats.
Evenly spread the moistened oats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, tossing the oats 3 times during the cooking process.
Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the oats with hemp hearts (if using), chia seeds (if using), chocolate, cranberries, coconut and almonds.
Stir to combine and allow the melted chocolate to create clusters of oats.
Once cooled, transfer to a sealed container.
