Pizza Puffs

When my son was younger he was always starving when he got home from school, especially on days when he had after school activities. I tried to have healthy snacks on hand that wouldn’t be so filling that they would ruin his appetite for dinner, but it wasn’t always easy finding something we both agreed on. These pizza puffs would be the perfect after school snack as they are very satisfying yet by using whole wheat flour, low fat mozzarella, and turkey pepperoni and turkey sausage they are pretty healthy too! I made my puffs in a regular sized muffin tin, but if you made them in min muffin tins they would be great appetizers for kids too!

Why Healthy

  • Eggs, turkey sausage, turkey pepperoni, and low fat mozzarella are all good sources of low fat protein.
  • Switching to whole wheat flour from all-purpose flour increases the nutritional profile of this snack food.



Pizza Puffs

A low fat, high protein snack for kids that they will love.

Yield: Makes 6

Prep Time: 15 mins

Cook Time: 20 mins


3/4 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
3/4 Cup Milk
1 Large Egg, Lightly Beaten
1 Cup (About 4 Ounces) Low Fat Mozzarella Cheese
1/2 Cup Turkey Pepperoni, Diced
1/2 Cup Cooked Turkey Crumbles
1/4 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese


Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. and grease a 6 hole muffin tin.
In a bowl, mix together the flour and baking powder, then whisk in the egg, and milk.
Stir in the cheese, sausage and pepperoni, then allow to rest for 10 minutes.
Spoon mixture into the muffin tin and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until puffy and golden brown.
