Valentine’s Day Egg In A Heart Shaped Basket
This is a fun Valentine twist on a breakfast favorite – eggs in a basket. To make 2 or 3 at a time use a large griddle or large frying pan.
- Multigrin bread adds fiber and nutritional value.
- Cooking spray is used in place of butter or oil to reduce calories and fat.
Valentine’s Day Egg In A Heart Shaped Basket
Yield: Serves 1
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 4 mins
Ingredients:
1 Egg
1 Slice of Multigrain or Whole Wheat Bread
Cooking Spray
Salt & Pepper To Taste
Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter
Directions:
Using a heart shaped cookie cutter, cut a heart shape out of the center of the bread slice.
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat and spray generously with cooking spray.
Place bread slice in the skillet and crack the egg directly into the heart shaped hole.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Place the heart shaped piece of bread you cut out in the skillet as well.
Place lid on and cook for 2 minutes or so until the egg is starts to set.
Flip both the main slice with the egg in it and the heart shaped piece of bread and continue to cook until desired firmness of egg. (No need for the lid this time around, it just helped the egg set earlier.)
Serve immediately.
Hi! I really enjoy your recipe rebuilds, it sincerely helps to improve what we eat everyday! I just want to point out in the Apple Butter & today’s recipe, croissants were used. I love croissants but for me it negates the calories saved.

I buy whole grain croissants, and served these over the holidays as a special treat. As I stated in the recipe notes, I usually use the apple butter on whole grain bread, yogurt, or oatmeal.
